Selects QDesign MPEG for Band2Web
WebNoize 98, Booth # 22 (Universal City, CA) - November 2nd, 1998
- Today, QDesign - a leading provider of audio compression technologies
for broadcast and new media (providing the Internet audio compressor for
Apple QuickTime 3) and IUMA - Internet Underground Music Archive, the
first and largest music site for independent music, announce that the
QDesign MPEG-2 Layer II technology is being incorporated as the audio
compression solution for IUMA and Digidesign's new Band2Web product. The
Band2Web product, announced at WebNoize, is an easy-to-use Web authoring
tool to help musicians create and promote their music on the Web. The
QDesign MPEG technology is the industry's leading audio compression software
used by studios and broadcasters for encoding, archiving and distributing
pro-audio and broadcast content. A demo version of the QDesign MPEG technology
is available from QDesign's website at www.qdesign.com.
"The QDesign MPEG technology is an integral part of the Band2Web product
which seeks to enable musicians to effortlessly create a customized web
site," said Scott Paris, president and CEO of IUMA. "We needed an audio
compression solution to encode CD-quality audio in the least amount of
time and at the smallest file size. On any standard multimedia PC, the
QDesign MPEG technology provided the best overall performance."
"The Band2WEB product provides the most integrated solution for enabling
musicians to publish and promote their music on the Web," said Mandy Chan,
Vice-President of Marketing for QDesign. "The QDesign MPEG technology
enables Band2Web to provide the fastest and highest quality audio compression
capability to independent musicians. The inclusion of QDesign's MPEG software
in Band2Web further establishes QDesign as the leading technology provider
of audio compression solutions for new media."
QDesign's MPEG-2 Layer II technology was released as the industry's first,
studio-quality MPEG-2 Layer II encode and decode software to provide real-time
processing for up to 48kHz stereo files on Pentium 100MHz processors and
above. It has been licensed into professional audio applications as well
as consumer multimedia software as the core audio processing engine for
capturing and encoding high quality audio at the most optimal file size.
The QDesign MPEG technology is also available as applications for professional
audio encoding. The QDesign MPEG PRO software application is available
as an AudioSuite Plug-In for Digidesign Pro Tools 4.0 and above for USD$495
and as a stand-alone application for Windows 95/NT for US$299. A plug-in
version of the MPEG encoder and decoder software will be released in Q498
to enable direct export from applications such as Cool Edit Syntrillium
and Sound Forge from Sonic Foundry.
