DG Systems and QDesign Partner to Enable Simple Broadcast Audio Delivery via the Internet

NAB Radio (Seattle, WA) - October 14th, 1998 - QDesign Corporation, a leading provider of audio compression technologies and DG Systems (NASDAQ NM: DGIT), the broadcast industry’s leading provider of digital distribution services announce their partnership to enable audio professionals to produce and distribute broadcast-quality audio directly from their digital audio workstations to over 7,500 broadcast destinations using DG’s iAudio™ Internet service.

This means that any studio equipped with a Digidesign Pro Tools TM system or Windows 95/NT based digital audio workstation and the QDesign MPEG PRO software can encode and distribute a completed session to over 6,000 broadcast destinations in as little as an hour with guaranteed reliability. With the QDesign MPEG PRO software on Windows, users are able to capture live audio directly through their sound card and encode into MPEG audio. Built-in to the application is the ability to FTP directly to the iAudio™ site or to send the MPEG audio file via the system's email application, such as Outlook TM from Microsoft.

"The QDesign MPEG technology is a critical component for electronically distributing broadcast-quality audio. MPEG Layer II has been the broadcast industry standard for encoding, transmitting and storing programming for many years. With the QDesign MPEG PRO software for both the MAC and Windows OS, DG Systems is able to extend its iAudioTM service to an even larger group of audio professionals, " said Hank Donaldson, DG Systems' president and CEO.

"With the convenience of the iAudio™ service and QDesign's MPEG software, sending tapes is virtually a thing of the past. Individual studios and radio stations can encode QDesign MPEG audio for wide area distribution to any and all of DG System destinations. In addition, the QDesign MPEG software can also be used for digital audio archival and distribution over local area networks (LAN) and the Internet," states Mandy Chan, Vice-President of Marketing at QDesign.

The QDesign MPEG PRO software application is available as an AudioSuite Plug-In for Digidesign Pro Tools 4.0 and above for USD$495 and as a stand-alone application for Windows 95/NT for US$299. A plug-in version of the MPEG encoder and decoder software will be released in Q498 to enable direct export from applications such as Cool Edit TM Syntrillium and Sound Forge TM from Sonic Foundry.

DG Systems operates a nationwide, value-added digital network which links hundreds of advertisers and advertising agencies with more than 7,500 radio stations and 500 television stations across the United States. The Company's fault-tolerant network operations center delivers audio, video, image and data content which facilitates transactions among advertising industry participants.
