MediaTouch
and QDesign Sign Licensing Agreement
QDesign to supply MPEG Audio for new generation radio and multimedia systems
WINNIPEG, MB -- April 12, 1999 - MediaTouch, a division of OMT
Technologies, Inc., announced it has signed a licensing agreement with
QDesign Corporation that will allow MediaTouch to incorporate the QDesign's
MPEG-2 Layer II software codec into all of its radio and multimedia products.
The QDesign MPEG-2 stereo compression technology is based on an advanced
implementation of the MPEG-2 Layer II standard for audio bit-rate reduction.
Using proprietary techniques in perceptual audio coding, the QDesign MPEG
software optimizes the quality and performance of the MPEG standard to
enable users to encode and decode studio-quality sound from a live or
recorded audio source without the need for proprietary audio cards.
MediaTouch will market QDesign's MPEG-2 codec in its "Card Independence"
line of products, which play MPEG audio on virtually any sound card. The
product line includes production and editing software, CD ripping, on-air
playback, and wide area networking. The products will be formally introduced
at NAB'99 in Las Vegas, April 19-22, 1999.
"QDesign is the leading supplier of audio compression technologies in
the industry. By making the QDesign MPEG the core codec engine behind
our products, MediaTouch gains a new level of flexibility, extensibility
and affordability in our products. Broadcasters can now run MediaTouch
on any workstation supporting a standard Windows audio card," explained
Scott Farr, Vice-President of Research and Development at MediaTouch.
"QDesign also gives us the mobility to tackle the multimedia market, for
which we have some exciting plans," Farr said. MediaTouch and its parent
company, OMT Technologies, Inc. are preparing to announce a new e-commerce
product based on the core platform.
"MediaTouch is well posed to take advantage of very exciting opportunities
in audio delivery," says Mandy Chan, Vice-President of Marketing at QDesign.
"We are thrilled that QDesign's MPEG was chosen as the technology platform
used in MediaTouch's products for the new millenium."
